FREE Stock Photo & Image Websites

A shortlist of the best free stock photo websites.

When you are putting together content for your
website an important aspect of communicating to your website target audience is your selection of images. Carefully taken photographs are important in portraying your ideas or sending the right message. However, hiring a professional photographer does not come cheap! Not to mention planning – both your team and the location – is time consuming. And some people just don’t like having their photograph taken. 🙂 So what to do? Get images from Google or other websites and hope no one ever finds out? That’s a huge NO NO, and I am sure you know why. The last thing you want is to be slapped with a lawsuit for using someone else’s photos without permission!

Stock images are your answer. Websites like Getty and Shutterstock provide superb stock photography. But the pricing – oh my gosh! Not friendly for many startups and small business owners. Fortunately, there is a solution – FREE stock photo websites. Yes that’s right. More and more websites are popping up that offer FREE stock photos that you can use on your website. Yes some may require you to include an acknowledgement to the photographer on your website page using the image, but frankly since it’s free, that’s not a bad thing. That said, there are some that are completely open. In the early days these sites had pretty bad images but now it seems there are many hobbyist photographers taking professional photos who don’t mind sharing their work openly if not only for the self-satisfaction that people are noticing their work.
